Donna summer is an America singer best known for her hit song from the disco epoch She got her start in the music industry in Germany, not America. Her last name is an anglicized misspelling of her married German name, Sommer.Her top ten hit on the American R&B charts:

She was even more successful on the American pop charts, where the audience is largely white.
She crossed over to white audiences through her gay white male fan of the early disco scene in New York - the very fan many of whom she later doomed when it was reported that she said AIDS was a punishment from God. She was a born-again Christian by that point, so it was a believable statement, but she denies having ever said IT She took New York magazine to court when they reprinted the story.
She grew up in suburban Boston, singing in the church choir. Later she shocked her parent when she dropped out of high school to run off to New York to make it big.
